“Our bus has arrived,”
my husband observed.
Though at the airport,
flying now feels like
taking a bus.
It used to be
exciting to fly
It used to be fun
Would I have
Chicken or pasta?
What will we have
For dessert?
Would my friend
be there when
we disembarked,
smiling and waving
as we walked off
the plane?
Now you wait in
endless queues
Shoes off
Belts removed
Strangers touching
Your breasts
Officials tossing out
Your sunscreen or shampoo
People bumping
Into you
Anxious to get going
When that ordeal is over
You look at the big screen
Your flight is delayed
At least two hours
You sigh, dragging your suitcase behind you,
not willing to spend $50
to check your bag
nor $25 more to sit with
your partner.
This all used to be included
in the price of your ticket!
No food is supplied on the
flight, of course.
Like taking a bus,
you must bring your own,
unless you want to pay
more.
Credit cards only, please.
You arrive at your destination,
finally.
No one is there to greet you
when you step off the plane.
Security concerns, of course.
We all travel in airborne buses now.
The joy of flying is gone.
You said it girl! Flying is a daunting task from packing with all the rules, to everything in-between actual landing. I used to love travel, now I’d like to just blink and be there. Long gone are the days people used to dress up for travel, we got real food and legroom without having to pay extra just to sit comfortably. Golden days are gone. 😦

I see I’m anonymous here now, lol. That was my comment above about no joy in travel. 🙂 Me D.G. Kaye

Yes, Debby. It’s a sad state of affairs traveling these days.

Flying the “friendly” skies it ain’t. We haven’t been diverted cause of unruly passengers yet, so far so good.

I can only agree with you Nancy. It’s not the novelty it used to be.

You have summed it up perfectly There is no excitement about airports or joy of flying anymore. Michael O’Leary once said that pilots are just bus drivers in the sky. We get cheap flights and he earns 1.2 million a year.

Thanks, Andrew. Us older folks know flying used to be a wonderful experience. Young people today missed out on those glory days.
