Still Standing

I almost died when a wasp stung me at 20

I was dumped by a man I thought I loved at 30

My heart was broken by the suicide of a special friend at 60

But I am still standing

Many years ago, my parents died, and it bothers me still

This year I broke my femur and struggled to walk

Haven’t seen our beloved sons in 19 months

But I am still standing

Had toxemia and emergency C-section while pregnant with son number one

While working as a teacher, had a terrible boss who threatened my will to live

Staggered through the long, dark tunnel of teenage boys, with police at our door holding son number two in handcuffs

But I am still standing

We all face pain and loss

We all suffer sometimes

For some people, the blows life delivers are too much

But for others, we keep moving on no matter what

We are those still standing until the end comes for us
