Anyone considering leaving the US should first and formost check what your tax liability will be in the country you are considering. Hire a local tax consultant that works with expats to get the most curent information. Buyer beware if you only use the internet for tax information. When we considered Spain and Portugal the tax liabilty on our retirement income was not acceptable. Hence we decided to stay in Colombia where our US retirement income and Social Security is not taxed by Colombia.
