My wife and children wanted to leave town
to a place of safety from bomb blasts and siren screams
Little did I know their lives would end that day
When they took a chance to run across the road
And ended up dead, lying silent and still in the street
Struck down by shrapnel shards from a mortar fired by the enemy
I ask you now
How do I go on when all that matters is gone?
Shall I fight for my country
Attack the monsters who did this?
Because if I die
It will not matter anymore
Not to me, anyway.
Will it matter to you?
So sad what is happening in Ukraine,
Hubby

True, Barb. But that’s just how the husband feels after the death of his family.
