Understanding Sept 11, 2001

World Trade Center Twin Towers in flames in NYC

The New York Times produced a story today that shared how students from 12 countries around the world were taught about the catastrophic events that occurred 20 years ago. It’s very interesting to read what, if anything, is taught about the events of that day. Most of the young people interviewed say their countries–Iraq, South Korea, South America, Germany, Russia, France, Australia, Venezuela, Brazil, Pakistan, the UK, and the US, have done a very poor job explaining what happened and why. Most of the students interviewed gave their countries Ds or Fs in terms of how well they teach about the events of September 11, 2001.

Here is a link to the interesting article and videos. I am not sure if a subscription is required to access the link, however. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/09/09/world/911-lessons-teens.html. I agree with these 12 students that the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, really do need to be taught better all around the world. So on this 20th anniversary of the event, I wanted to draw your attention to my book, Torn Between Worlds: A Mexican Immigrant’s Journey to Find Herself. This coming-of-age story tells about what happened in the US on September 11, 2001 and its aftermath. It is written in a journal format and told from the point of view of a 12-year-old undocumented Mexican girl. It’s not boring history and dry facts, but rather an engaging retelling of what happened in the US on and after that fateful day. Young people would find the book of special interest as would anyone curious about what transpired on September 11, 2001. My novel also has a 4.8 out of 5 star rating from readers. See table below for details.

For the next week, the price of the Kindle edition will be reduced from $5.99. So now it a good time to buy the book on Amazon, if not for yourself, then for your children or grandchildren. If they were born in 1995 or later, they probably have little or no recollection of what transpired on that fateful day 20 years ago. https://www.amazon.com/Torn-Between-Worlds-illegal-immigrants-ebook/dp/B08QZRTRSS/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1621842029&sr=8-1.
