Why has the US Centers for Disease Control said it’s okay for vaccinated American people to go without masks in most situations now? Just over one in three Americans is fully vaccinated and yet premature victory has already been declared. There is no defined system of knowing who has been fully vaccinated and who is pretending they did so they can go maskless. How ridiculous!
Apparently we are going to use “the honor system” to enforce this new CDC edict. https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/2021/05/15/mask-vaccination-honor-system/. Asked how people will know if others had been vaccinated, Anthony S. Fauci, President Biden’s chief medical adviser, said they wouldn’t. “You’re gonna be depending on people being honest enough to say whether they are vaccinated or not,” he told CNN.
Are we supposed to look into people’s eyes to determine if they are lying about whether they have been vaccinated or not? Seriously, would I trust the 74 million Americans who voted to re-elect Donald Trump as President to look out for my safety? Absolutely not! Trump has to be one of the most selfish and unethical people in all the world and yet 74 million people wanted him to be our leader!
When Joseph Biden was inaugurated, I breathed a sigh of relief that our long national nightmare was over. But now I wonder what he was thinking to allow the CDC to declare that Americans can go maskless now. Is the new thinking that the only people who will now get Covid-19 in the US are the ones who aren’t vaccinated? Is that okay? Some of these people are children who haven’t yet had a chance to be vaccinated! And what about people with compromised immune systems? Can they trust that people going maskless around them have all been vaccinated? This decision seems very callous and not well thought out to me.
The CDC decision has now led to even more ridiculous rulings. For example, the Governor of Texas is going to require people to take off their masks in the lone star state or they will be fined! According to the New York Times, “most government authorities in Texas will soon be prohibited from requiring people to wear masks, Gov. Greg Abbott announced on Tuesday (May 18th), days after federal health officials announced new guidance that encourages people who have been completely vaccinated to forego masks in most situations. The executive order Mr. Abbott announced would prevent counties, cities, public health authorities and local government officials from requiring people to wear masks beginning Friday, May 21st. Violators could be fined $1,000.” That is one of the craziest things I have ever heard! In Texas, you will be free to go maskless but better not put on a mask to protect yourself or others because it will cost you big time!
I am also really disappointed that this pandemic hasn’t brought the different countries together to fight this scourge of humanity. Every country just seems to be looking out for itself and in some cases, like Brazil and India, it seems like their leaders aren’t even doing that. This plague could have been an opportunity for the world to work together to get everyone vaccinated so we could all be safe. Instead it seems like poor countries are left to fend for themselves and this pandemic will just go on and on. This is just no way to live. Stop the world. I want to get off!
I agree that the “guidelines” are confusing and the politicians don’t help. Stay safe. Hubby

Just an FYI, here is the actual mandate by the Texas, ( idiot ) governor which is only for state government facilities and public schools.

We are here now in Austin visiting family and the mayor has already issued orders that everyone must wear a mask and from what we see it looks like general compliance.

The Texas Governor is most certainly an idiot! Glad to hear things are more sane and safe in the Democratic enclave of Austin!

Hi Nancy, hope you’re doing well. In my opinion, the CDC should not have made that announcement because it’s just creating confusion. We still have to follow our state’s rules. For example, in California, the governor says he plans to reopen the state by June 15 and would (at that time) give an update on mask-wearing rules. Until then, I don’t mind wearing them! 😷

Yes, Darlene, I agree. The CDC announcement is just causing confusion and it wasn’t helpful!
